Hybrid 3D Fractal Coding with Neighbourhood Vector Quantisation
نویسندگان
چکیده
A hybrid 3D compression scheme which combines fractal coding with neighbourhood vector quantisation for video and volume data is reported. While fractal coding exploits the redundancy present in different scales, neighbourhood vector quantisation, as a generalisation of translational motion compensation, is a useful method for removing both intraand interframe coherences. The hybrid coder outperforms most of the fractal coders published to date while the algorithm complexity is kept relatively low.

Polynomial image coding with vector quantised error compensation
This resembles a fractal transform, and the coefficient values can be calculated using a least squares fit as done by Monro [3] for fractals. The major difference from fractals is that the block(x,y) values are predetermined, and therefore to render the image there is no need for the iteration associated with fractals. The RIBs are effectively the difference between the polynomial coded image a...

We present a novel method of image expansion using vector quantisation. The algorithm is inspired by fractal coding and uses a statistical model of the relationship between details at different scales of the image to interpolate detail at one octave above the highest spatial frequency in the original image. Our method aims at overcoming the drawbacks associated with traditional approaches such ...
متن کاملAn Improved Vector Quantisation Algorithm for Speech Transmission Over Noisy Channels
Vector quantisation (VQ) is a method widely used in low bit-rate coding and transmission of speech signals. Unfortunately, a single bit error in the transmitted index, due to noise in the transmission channel, could degrade perceived speech quality at the receiver quite dramatically, as the reference vector retrieved by the corrupted index may di er greatly from the vector corresponding to the ...

متن کاملVector quantisation based image enhancement
We present a new algorithm for rescaling images inspired by fractal coding. It uses a statistical model of the relationship between detail at different scales of the image to interpolate detail at one octave above the highest spatial frequency in the original image. We compare it with Bspline and bilinear interpolation techniques and show that it yields a sharper looking rescaled image.
